Revel in it ...

Statistical Analysis of Revels

This started the other day at work when someone mention "Have you seen Revels recently? They've got NEW SWEET written on them", and so this person had gone out and bought a packet, but couldn't tell what the new sweet was.

Well before they knew it, we'd all gone out and bought some Revels, and sent in our stats on what the 'breakdown' of different types of sweets you got inside each packet. And whilst we were at it, we made a note of how much they cost us to buy as well so that we do some value for money evaluation as well.

So dear reader, I ask you to do this - Go out and buy some Revels today (either a packet, tub, tube or large packet) and as you eat them, count the different types that you get.

And they are:

Maltesers, Chocolate Buttons, Toffee, Orange and the horrible Coffee ones which no one seems to like much. Oh, and of course the new sweet - which is Raisin!

Your typical results for a (small) 35g bag might look like this:

Maltesers ... 3
Buttons ... 3
Orange ... 3
Toffee ... 4
Coffee ... 2
Raisin ... 1

Results Spreadsheet

Write the results down, and email them to me, and I'll update the rudimentary spreadsheet that I've started here you can download to have a look at the ones we've done so far:

Identifying them

Confused as how to identify you Revels? I delicately dissected some and took photos to help you identify them:

Chocolate BUtton   -   Coffee   -   Malteser/Honeycomb

Raisin   -   Orange   -   Toffee/Caramel

Pricing

I'd like to know how much you pay for your Revels as well as the prices seem to vary greatly from shop to shop. I'll build some value for money stats in the spreadsheet as well at somepoint.

Easter Eggs

'Revels' easter eggs make an appearance every March/April, but I have yet to buy one! I don't even know what you get inside them in terms of sweets etc... are they 'standard' sized bags, or something specifically manufactured for Easter?

Logging

My thanks to Pete Lupton too for coming up with an innovative way of 'logging' the number of revels that you have in a packet too. "Use your mobile phone" says Pete.

"Just set the phone to non-predictive text, and put the initial of the type of revel into the phone as they come out (C=Coffee, O=Orange, T=Toffee/Caramel, M=Maltesers, B...you get the drift), and bingo a complete record. Then you can spend the time rearranging the letters so they're sorted by revel type (i.e. COTTTMBBBRRRR) whilst trying to look where you're going and not bump into people."

Later, Pete gets back to me again to tell me that he went out and bought a packed of Maltesers and counted the the different number of variations of sweets in them. "There were 28 chocolate sweets in the packet", he says "And they were all Maltesers". Thanks for clearing that one up Pete.
