Have a slightly smaller easter
I’m sure I remember someone wittering on a while ago about how they thought Cadbury’s Creme Eggs were getting smaller.
We all know that chocolate manufacturers have been doing it for years – I mean, have you SEEN the size of a Curly Wurly these days? They used to be huge, and now they’re not much bigger than my middle finger.
I tracked some some Cadbury’s Creme eggs here in the USA at my local CVS yesterday, and wanted to give you this picture for two reasons:
i. To show you what the wrapper of an Orange version looks like, and
ii. Because compared to a UK creme egg from last year (We still had some in our freezer here from England last year – don’t ask), you can clearly see that it’s a smidgen shorter – scandalous!
And not even a vague mention of the ‘W’ word – aren’t I good? Happy Easter.
(By the way, when I bitch that I can’t find any Cadbury’s Easter Eggs – I’m NOT referring to these ones. I’m referring to large 6″ tall hollow milk chocolate eggs that are in abundance in any grocery store back in England, but are completely absent here. Tsk! Although this one at PimpThatSnack is probably too large…)

After living in London for the first 33 years of my life and working for the
So for ten weeks in June, July and August 2009, I drove 20,000 miles around the the lower 48 contiguous states of the USA visiting towns and places that shared the same name as places on The London
I went to tescos yesterday. They were quite short on the egg front too.
Ahhh, the 6″ hallow ones are much harder to get. I have a local British import store that has them for insane amounts of money but otherwise I have to pick them up in the UK. I’ll be there next week and I’d offer to pick one up and send it to you but I suspect it would be easier for you to simply put in an order with your wedding guests.
Rhys… thank you! I think people thought I was referring to the smaller ones when i mentioned them previously! So seeing as you suggest it:
Calling all UK ‘W’ guests (that haven’t already left). An easter egg (a PROPER one) would be really welcome. Buy me one anytime after Monday when they’re all reduced to clear in your local filling station for 99p…. Thx!
Interesting about the Creme Eggs. I thought that the US was a big market for Cadbury’s Creme eggs. The ones sold in the USA, at least used to be, made in the UK and then transported by plane. Cos they are transported on planes they have to lower the pressure in the eggs so they don’t burst mid flight! Imagine the mess in the Cargo hold, choclate everywhere!
Don’t worry, not all the Cadbury Creme Eggs are getting smaller…

Keep the Creme Egg forever! Use it as a benchmark of pessimism for years to come.
