Winning and Losing 2007
So it’s 365 days since I could last say “It’s my birthday”.
Birthdays are often the time to take stock of ones lot. And I like to do this every year. So it’s time again to compile a little life balance sheet just to see whether I’m still making progress to me over what’s happened to me in the last 12 months.
1. Gained: About six pounds in weight, which is UP on last year – yay! – and am now the heaviest I’ve weighed for two years.
2. Lost: My UK mobile phone number. Goodbye Vodaphone, hello AT&T and your expensive European roaming charges.
3. Lost: A negative bank balance. (That’s actually a gain, but as per last year I’m still trying to confuse you on purpose. I’m only slightly in the black, but it’s the first time I have been in it for over a year, and it feels good.
4. Gained: A job. Yay! Hence [4]
5. Gained: Stability. See [5]
6. Lost: Trust in certain friends which will never be re-gained.
7. Gained: Better trust in older friends. New friends. A better sense of determining whether someone is going to be your friend or not.
8. Stayed the same: The number of grey hairs in my head. Can’t complain.
I can’t think of a tenth thing. Well nothing that seems that important anyway. But overall compared to last year things are on the up and looking good. Not perfect, but when does that really truly happen to anyone?
I’m currently on a mini-vacation for the weekend with Leigh’s family in Topsail beach, North Carolina. The beach house is literally just that – I can hear the sea crashing against the sandy beach from my bed at night. That’s quite nice. And by the time most of you have read this this morning, I’ll have been for a walk by myself, maybe take a cup of tea with me and reflect back for a moment on the last thirty-something years.
Happy Birthday to me.

And the original mccullochlog blog post from where I blatantly stole the idea to do this – no apologies.

After living in London for the first 33 years of my life and working for the

I hope that the weather you have today is as nice as the weather we had over hear for my birthday yesterday.
Happy Birthday Geoff.
I thought it was either today or tomorrow, as mine was on Wednesday and I remember you saying a few years ago that our birthdays are only a few days apart. I’m sure you’ll have a damn fine time and I note that Spurs have done the decent thing and won very convincingly.
Typical bl**dy Spurs!! 4-0. unbelievable. Still it was only against cannon-fodder Derby.
Happy Birthday
Do you think the grey hair figure has stabilised since you stopped watching spurs, or is there another reason? hb.
I was rather pleased with the football results, yes! Now ‘ssh’ Alan!
