Geoff, Thomas (Fussell) informed me of the wonderful trip you've undertaken! I read the first two days and now am back! I seem to have missed an eventful 3 weeks. Sorry to hear of your problems. I never had heard anyone refer to Charleston as "Chuck town" cute! The concept of looking at your hometown as a stranger would do, is interesting, also difficult. I don't think that I can do it. It also seems strange to me that our sons, half of whom had been living in "Chuck-town" for the past year, are not there at this moment. You know about Michael & Melissa, of course, and Thomas joined us in Atlanta for the Peachtree Road Race this weekend. Take care. I'm going to look over the past two weeks and see what I've missed.

Hey Paul, sounds like a great suggestion for Geoff.

Information on everything we've ever done is stored on the internet somewhere.

Google yourself..it's pretty scary.

I am old enough to remember traveling before there were trusted same- anywhere places to eat. We packed food to take along because my parents couldn't afford Howard Johnson's for all of us, or whatever gastro-intestinal illness I might pick up from some unknown roadside diner. If you are local, you can eat locally with confidence, but when you're traveling, it's harder, especially if you have budget or health constraints. McDonald's may lack imagination or local color, but it's clean, consistent, quick and affordable.
Generally if you go into the towns, you'll still find the charming local places. It's the places right off the interstate that are generic and comforting to strangers--like a Railway Bar or something....
