The Best … Going Home to London Album in the World – Ever!
I’ve been making a ‘Going Home’ playlist.
Glasvegas – Please come back home
The Clash – London calling
James – Come home
Supertramp – Take the long way home
East 17 – Around the world
“I’ve been around the world, but there’s no place like home”
Simon & Garfunkel – Homeward Bound
Crowded House – Better be home soon
Kayne West – Homecoming
Depeche Mode – Home
“And I thank you, for bringing me here, for showing me home”
Catatonia – Londinium
“Euston, Paddington train station please, make the red lights turn green, endlessly”
Pet Shop Boys – Home and Dry
Any other obvious ones that I’ve missed?

After living in London for the first 33 years of my life and working for the
So for ten weeks in June, July and August 2009, I drove 20,000 miles around the the lower 48 contiguous states of the USA visiting towns and places that shared the same name as places on The London
Not strictly relevant I know, but I couldn’t help but think of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QIAv2EoIP0 It’s very English too.
“He’s coming home, he’s coming … Geoff-tech’s coming home”. Yes, i expect banners at the airport with words to that effect, ok?
… which has just given me a neat idea for iTunes. You should be able to assign artwork to playlists too! (not just individual tracks). the spoof artwork i made the “The best..” i think i should be able to actually assign to the playlist that i’ve made.
A bit older but how about Ralph McTell and Streets of London.
Here are a few suggestions (with a little help from listen.grooveshark.com)
British artists:
Home By The Sea – Genesis
Bring It On Home – Led Zeppelin
Bring The Boys Back Home – Pink Floyd
Nobody Home – Pink Floyd (both from “The Wall”)
Can’t Find My Way Home – Blind Faith
…and a few American artists:
Home At Last – Steely Dan (from “Aja”)
I’ll Be Home For Christmas – Bing Crosby (and many others)
Take Me Home Country Roads – John Denver
Good selection (E17 notwithstanding!)! Makes me homesick…
Waterloo Sunset – The Kinks
“As long as I gaze on Waterloo Sunset I am in paradise….”
You got to have “You’re Moving Out Today” by Carole Bayer Sager. If you do not know it, it is worth a listen. Seems apt, somehow.
The Beatles- “When I Get Home”
Arlo Guthrie- “I’m Going Home” (OK, that one’s not so obvious)
and what’s wrong with East 17? i luuurve that song. ok, so Brian Hatvey & Co. are complete cocks, but that doesn’t stop me liking the song…
Chris Rea – Driving Home for Christmas
?
I immediately thought of “London” by Queensryche
http://www.google.com/search?q=queensryche+london
Coming Home by Deep Purple
Welcome Back Home by The Byrds
Country Home by Neil Young (although Helpless would fit your mood better)
and as mentioned above, you have to include Home at Last by Steely Dan – The Odyssey turned into a four minute pop song.
Others:
“Kathy’s Song” – Paul Simon/Simon & Garfunkel (“I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets / To England, where my heart lies.”)
“Leaving On A Jet Plane” – John Denver/Peter, Paul & Mary
“Werewolves Of London” – Warren Zevon
“London Still” – The Waifs
