Top 10 of 2003
The votes are in and the counting is complete! All done and dusted for another year, and thus may I now present the Top 10 chart from your favourite tunes of the last twelve months.
I have made a CD of just these 10 songs, so if when you read down the list you find yourself thinking "I've no idea what that one sounds like, was that really a hit last year?", then drop me an email and ask for a copy and I'll send you one!
Just missing out of the top ten itself were Justin Trousersnake's "Rock your body", Good Charlotte's "Girls and boys", Muse's "Time is running out" and Rachel Stevens "Sweet Dreams my LA ex". All fine tunes in themselves, but according to you lot, not as fine as the ten tunes that follow...

Electric Six - Danger! High Voltage
It's the one with the flashing breasts in the video! What do you mean you still haven't seen it? Ah well, apart from that I have to confess to not knowing a lot more about Electric Six, except it was probably the most eccentric song of last year - surely?

Dido - White flag
Ah yes... Miss Florian "Dido" Cloud de Bounevialle had her long awaited follow up album "Life for Rent" released this year, with White Flag being the first single released from it in September of 2003.
The single made No.2, the album went on to sell a few million copies and became the biggest selling album of the year, but will it ever catch up or surpass what people are saying is already he finest work, the 'No Angel' album?
Expect more single releases, more low-cut tops revealing her breasts in her videos, and a few more albums shifted in the shops during 2004.

Black Eyed Peas - Where is the love?
The one with the question marks in the video! This LA based rap crew had the biggest selling single of the year when 'Where is the love' sold 625,000 copies and was No.1 in the UK for five weeks during September and October.

TATU - All the things she said
Are they lesbians? Aren't they? Do you care? Probably not, but the two eighteen year old Russian girlies who can't dance, so they just strut around on stage when performing their songs instead had the first big big hit of the year when 'All the things she said' made No.1 with it's slightly risque video.
Or so the critics would have you believe. The most endearing image to me was the tennis court being rained upon for some reason, rather than the two 'lesbians' having an X-rated kiss which we know now was all just for publicity. We've seen it all before in Brookside before though haven't we? Ah, whatever, "All things she said" is here at No.7

Amy Studt - Misfit
I'll put my hand up straight away - she's one of my favourites and in fact is only one of two songs that I voted for the appear here in this final top 10. Amy is a 17 year old singer/songwriter from Bournemouth, and finally got got the plaudits she deserved this year when Misfit was a top 10 summer hit, and a top 10 million selling album followed shortly after.

Michael Andrews & Gary Jules - Mad World
C'mon, own up - had you really heard of the film Donnie Darko before this Tears for Fears classic re-working was 2003's surprise Christmas No.1 ? Well a big brownie point to you if you had as this rather maudlin version of the Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith working made christmas number one for 2003.
Personally I don't think it's either brilliant or crap, but I think just goes to show what a good song it was to begin with that it can be worked into something like this and sell hundreds of thousands of copies all over again.

Beyonce - Crazy in love
Miss Knowles hit the top spot in the charts in July of last year for many weeks making this along with Blu Cantrels 'Breath' one of the big club summer tunes of the year. I still can't quite perfect that 'shake your ass' thing though that she does when performing the song.
Ah well. More practice required I guess.

Christina Aguilera - Beautiful
Tarty or talented? The multi-pierced Christina Aguilera would probably argue both!
You certainly can't argue that she sang 'Beautiful' to perfection back in March of last year as it hit the top of the charts for two weeks.

Evanescence - Bring me to life
Well, well ,well, look at that, the top two songs of the year voted are both distinctly non-poppy. Is this a shift in musical tastes, or were there just no decent pop singles around last year?
This four piece epic rock outfit from Arkansas in the good ol's US of A have been around since 1999 and eventually hit the bigtime last year with this major smash hit single. Congrats to Evanescene then, who only just narrowly missed out on the No.1 spot, who they were beaten to by ...

The Darkness - I believe in a thing called love
Justin and Dan Hawkins along with their mate Frankie and Ed first released "I believe..." in August 2002 where it promptly made no impact whatsoever upon the record buying public whatsoever.
One glam-rock makeover later, oh and scoring the gig of being Robbie Williams support at Knebworth in the summer and suddenly everyone wants a piece of the action as they got the biggest selling single of the year not to make the No.1 spot. Well done chaps.
Well boys and girls, thank ye if you were one of those that voted this year, and congratulations to just the three of you that found the hidden track right at the start before track 1. Your should already be in possession of your 'prize' by now.

Each year for the past few new I get people - various friends, colleagues
and enemies etc.. to vote for what their favourite tunes of the year were.
