Review of the Year 2006

Download only - no CD!

For the tenth year in a row that I have now done this there are twelve tracks for you to download/play this year - one for each of the months of the year.

But be aware that I am not sending out CD's this year!

You have to download the files here from the website, either in AAC or MP3 format. You can of course play them direct from here, or download them locally and sync to your iPod/MP3 player. And if you really want a copy on CD, then you can burn the MP3 tracks to a blank CD and do it that way.

Top 5's

You can (as always) vote for your favourite five tunes of the year, and from the votes that I get in I'll compile a chart of our favourites and publish them sometime in January 2007, alongside the the previous years [below].

UK or USA?

In case you've been living in a cave for the last year, then you can't fail to know that I moved from the UK to the USA back in May of 2006.

This has proved to be somewhat of a challenge when coming to make a 'review' CD. Do I have a UK or USA slant on the music and news? The answer is ... I've stuck with the mother country and gone for England.

So extra kudos to me please for being able to do that from 4,000 miles away - and apologies to any American listeners where there are obviously songs that have been hits in England which have not been so here. In which case - treat it as a musical education!

AAC/iPod

If you have iTunes/iPod, it's recommended that you download and save these AAC files which come complete with artwork, track numbers and other meta data. Import & sync the download files into iTunes, sync them to your 'pod and away you go ...

MP3/Other

If you have any other digital music player, want to hear the files direct from this site, or want to burn the track to CD, use these MP3 links instead by either downloading or playing direct from this page.

Mistakes

Because I don't claim to be perfect, and I hate getting emails that say "You cocked up when ..." here's a list of the mistake which I already know about because I've spotted them.

  • In January, I claim that it's been a "Big big year" for the Arctic Monkeys when in fact they only had one other Top 10 hit in August that I didn't feel was good enough to include in the review.
  • I call the Keane album "The Man Under the Iron Sea" for some reason. It is in fact just called "Under the Iron Sea"
  • The Jack Johnson song is just called "Better Together".
  • Three and half minutes into July, I refer to the month being 'June' instead ... twice - oops!
  • The intro to December "This is Marshall ... Geoff Marshall" for the bond song, I used back in November 2002 when introducing the previous Bond theme - Madonna's "Die Another Day", so yes - I reused an idea from a previous review, just in case you thought it sounded familiar.
