My Telewest Trauma

This story actually started out as a log of my own information as I didn't want to forget what (didn't) happen to me when I tried to get something fixed with Telewest. I then wrote my main experience with them up and turned into this webpage, along with other dealings that myself & friends and colleagues have had with them.

Part 1:

How I spent six months trying to get my digital interactive service to work (February - July 2001) and How I tried to change the name on the bill when I moved house (December 2001 - April 2002)

Part 2:

Getting an installation of digital TV in my new place (December 2001) and Getting a broadband internet connection installed in my new place (January 2002)

Stories of others

One of the best eMails that someone has sent to me relating their torrid time with Telewest. Sent in by a very frustrated lady called Leesa!

A lovely lady called Shirley got in touch with me in October 2005 and gave me a copy of all her correspondence that she'd sent to Telewest - a rather fantastic read of how poorly they served her.

It would be rude not to link to this page that I found on the internet the other day. It's quite superb and highlights nicely the fact that I'm not the only one who has trouble with Telewest. http://www.telestew.org.uk/

I'm not alone in hating Telewest

I frequently get eMails sent to me saying "Saw your site on Telewest - nice one!" and "Here is my own horror story...".

This I think is one that is most telling:

Well done on your site about Telewest.

I set up a site myself , but the response from other customers started to produce stuff Telewest did not want the public to know - stories from staff were also very scary.

In the end Telewest scared my web hoster so much they would not maintain the site.

When the national press got involved, Telewest carried out a character assassination job on me. Very underhand. Telewest have a lot to hide - but someone will succeed in bringing these guys to book.

My site is at www.notsofunnytelewest.co.uk

NTL

The other major cable provider in the UK is NTL - and I hear equally scary things from friends who have their service provided by them as I do for Telewest.

Going round the internet in late 2000 was a letter supposedly written to them by some one a little unhappy with their service. I have no idea if it's really true or not, it could just be one of those internet legends that gets eMailed from person to person.

Why not have a read of it and decide for yourself.

Also, there is the website NTHellWorld.Com created for NTL:Home users which does actually have a lot of useful information.

And BT

Thinking about opting for BT ADSL instead? Beware! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3192055.stm
