The third annual Zone 1 challenge took place on May 19th
2006. Jack Welsby pulled the starting station - Sloane Square, just two
away from last years St. James Park - from that hat, and as per last year
people set off from that station, most using 'circular' routes to try
and get their way around all 62 Zone 1 stations as fast as possible.

The main incident of the day thought was the closure of
part of the Victoria line meaning that this delayed a lot of people -
and some people/teams were unable to finish at all! Including last years
winners ...
The winning team with 2 hours, 51 minutes and 54 on the
clock was the second fastest Zone 1 challenge time ever recorded. The
whole top 10 is here.
The final
standings, times and teams though, are as follows:
1st - ******** aka 'Waveform'
(David Scard, Ric Brackenbury, Andrew Baker)
2 hours, 51 minutes, 54 seconds
The only sub-three hour time - presumably
because they got the Victoria Line out of the way early on and were
not affected by its closure!
2nd - Tangy's Tube Trotters
(Martin Hazel & Steve Karahan)
3 hours, 0 minutes, 14 seconds
3rd - Monster Raving Bakerloony
Party
3 hours, 15 minutes, 41 seconds
4th - Pasty Power (Damien
Cook)
3 hours, 16 minutes, 37 seconds
5th
equal - I'd rather run than take the Circle (John Stark)
3 hours, 18 minutes, 44 seconds
"I'm not sure why my route was so
rubbish", reflects John - "I did have a twelve minute
wait at Bayswater, and six minute waits at Earls Court, Euston and High
Street Kensington, so what can you expect? Please don't mention Bayswater
to me ever again."
5th
equal- Team Needing Tardis (Kevin Brown, Jamie Brown, Antony Brown)
3 hours, 18 minutes, 44 seconds
They originally arrived at Vauxhall at
around 2:58 in, and just needed to get to Pimlico to complete the challenge.
However they arrived at the station it was closed. They met Hakan who
told them the station would be closed for at least an hour. But not
wanting to quit, they decided to catch a bus to Pimlico and by the time
they had, the line had re-opened, and so they hoppd on the first train
back to Vauxhall.

Seven Sisters (James Gommon, Rosie Gommon & David Williams)
3 hours, 21 minutes, 0 seconds
8th
